Synopsis:

Description:
NightFire takes inspiration from several of the best 007 moments across the years. In the completely original storyline, the super-spy finds himself on the trail of a corrupt businessman who's hatched a plan to use a secret weapon to destroy the world. Bond's quest to stop the terrorist before he can do any harm takes him across the world through a variety of stealth and action stages, deep into the ocean, and soaring into space. Most of the game (including the four-player multiplayer mode) is played in the first-person perspective, but there are also racing action stages that utilize the Need for Speed game engine.


James Bond is pitted against megalomaniac Raphael Drake, the world's largest green-industrialist and the president of Phoenix International. The goal of Phoenix International is to rid the world of unnecessary nuclear weapons and power plants to cleanse the environment. However, Phoenix International is soon suspected to be connected to the theft of a ballistic weapons guidance microchip that was meant to be part of the USSWP, or the United States Space Weapon Platform. When Bond starts to investigate the Japanese branch of Phoenix International, he learns of the true purpose of the international corporation: to carry out a decades-long, secret operation codenamed "Nightfire" that when completed will drastically redraw the lines that separate the countries of the world along with their governments, and plans to take over the world by taking control of all global corporations.

Crysis is a PC sci-fi first-person shooter from the award-winning developer Crytek, the developers of the critically acclaimed Far Cry (MC90).

Earth, 2019: A colossal asteroid crashes down to Earth.

The North Korean Government quickly seals off the island chain, claiming the mysteries of the asteroid for themselves. Amid rising tensions between the US and North Koreans, the asteroid suddenly bursts open, revealing a massive, 2km high alien ship. Anna Khitrova (Naomi Watts), a midwife at a London hospital, finds a Russian-language diary on the body of a Tatiana, a fourteen-year-old girl who dies in childbirth. She also finds a card for the Trans-Siberian restaurant, which is owned by Semyon (Armin Mueller-Stahl), a boss in the Russian Mafia or vory v zakone ("thieves in law"). Anna thus sets out to track down the girl's family so that she can find a home for the dead mother's baby girl. Annas mother Helen (Sinéad Cusack) does not discourage her, but Annas Russian-born uncle Stepan (Jerzy Skolimowski), whom Anna asks for help with translation of the diary, urges caution. Through Semyon and her uncle, Anna comes to learn that Semyon and his unstable son, Kirill (Vincent Cassel), had abused, forced into prostitution, and raped the girl.

Semyon's driver is the Russian-born Nikolai Luzhin (Viggo Mortensen), who serves as the family's driver and "cleaner", dumping dead bodies in the River Thames. As Nikolai's star rises within the vory, Semyon sponsors him as a full member, due in part to Nikolai's protection of Semyon's bumbling son who authorizes a hit on a rival Chechen vory leader. The hit was not approved by Semyon and was ill-advised with the Chechen gang now coming to London to seek vengeance. Semyon, impressed by Nikolai's knowledge of the criminal underworld and tolerance and protection of his son, hatches a plan to trick Nikolai, now a full member of the vory, so that Nikolai would temporarily take Kirill's place during the meeting with the Chechens at the baths. As Chechens attack Nikolai thinking he was Kirill, Nikolai is able to kill them both, ending up in the hospital with severe wounds as the result.

It is revealed near the end of the film that Nikolai is actually a Scotland Yard informer on the mob. As part of his undercover duties, Nikolai was able to read Anna's diary before Semyon had it destroyed and hatched a plan so that Semyon would go down for Tatiana's rape, making Nikolai the most powerful member of the London branch of the mob (more powerful than the unstable Kirill, who is thought to be a homosexual by the homophobic mobsters of the film). The plan works, with Anna eventually raising the baby and Nikolai becoming the crime boss.

Released in 1996, 3 Skulls of the Toltecs is a cartoon adventure game in the style of LucasArts' The Secret of Monkey Island. Unlike the popular Monkey Island, however, this game seems to have had very little impact on the adventure playing community. Perhaps its style was already considered dated by the time of its release, or maybe its 'wild west' scenario just didn't strike the right chord with many adventurers. I must admit I was put off by this latter aspect when I passed up the opportunity to play it about twelve months ago. Fortunately for me, a friend insisted that I at least give it a try and I'm glad that I did. As new adventure games are scarce at the moment I was in no position to turn up my nose a second time.



So you want to be a cowboy?
3 Skulls of the Toltecs is a third-person perspective adventure and your character is Fenimore Fillmore who stumbles across the path of three villains in the midst of ambushing a lone snake-oil and hair-restorer salesman. Having seen off the baddies you learn that the salesman was attacked for the golden skull in his possession, one of three 'keys' that are needed to unlock the secret of the fabled Toltec treasure.

In this introductory sequence you unwittingly contribute to the 'death of a salesman' and ride off with the skull, only to have it stolen from you within minutes. Now, if you want the treasure, you must find not one, but three skulls (or possibly more) and, in the best tradition of this style of game, you know it isn't going to be easy.



Interface and puzzles
In this mouse-controlled game you move Fenimore around the screen by simply pointing to where you want him to go then clicking the left mouse button. Double clicking on an exit will jump you to the next location and a handy map is provided to speed you to new areas once you learn of them and once you have a means of transport sorted out. A control panel appears beneath the playing area from where you can select verbs to carry out actions in a way that will be instantly familiar to those who have played the earlier Monkey Island or Simon the Sorcerer games.

The story unfolds as you talk to other characters (there is an on-screen text option) and find out what they want or learn why they won't let you do something. You will, of course, need to do many things unrelated to the main story just to overcome the obstacles to your progress. Inventory items are crucial so I shouldn't need to tell you to collect everything that isn't nailed down, and don't be easily discouraged by those that are.

Ok, so it's a little dated, but it seems that adventurers can't be choosers at the moment and many of us still like this kind of 'old fashioned' adventure. The cartoon graphics are still fine and the game is fun to play. Maybe cowboys aren't as interesting or as romantic as pirates and wizards, but don't let this put you off as the puzzles will keep you generally entertained, though it does fall away as you near the end. The game is an irreverent send up of the western genre and seems influenced, if not inspired, by the television series, F Troop, even if the humour is a little suspect at times. I wouldn't put it in the same league as Monkey Island or Simon the Sorcerer, but it is worth a look if, like me, you are partial to this style of adventure

Challenging and enjoyable. The developers did a decent job creating this title.

All isn't totally lost, though. For all that Breed does wrong, it at least lets you control some neat vehicles in expansive environments. Still, even in its good moments--which are uncommon--Breed is a poor game. During its many bad moments, you'll want to avoid it altogether.

Grand Theft Auto 3 does a great job at immersing the player within the game, and for me, racing from the cops trying your best to stay alive is a more exciting than most new games. It may not have the most technologically advanced graphics, but it’s put together in such a great way that the cities truly come to life. The audio also plays a very important part in Grand Theft Auto 3, with professional voice-overs and very diverse music. Multiplayer would be an awesome addition to the game, and even though it sadly isn’t included the single player part is very fun to play, and with so many challenging missions you’ll surely get your money worth. If you like action in any way and have a somewhat new PC then be sure to buy this game, just don’t shoot the clerk at the store.
